In an attempt to regain his diamond, he poses as an L.A.P.D. detective… Derivative but lively and amusing action-comedy that takes a far-fetched premise and plays it for all it's worth. After a high-tech robbery goes awry, jewel thief and career criminal Lawrence is forced to hide the loot (a priceless diamond) at a local construction site. Following a prison stretch of two years, he's released only to learn that the construction site is now a police station. His only alternative: pose as a cop, then go in and retrieve the diamond himself. It would be easy to stop and criticize the absurdity of the premise and its manipulative plot devices, but the film is a good vehicle for star Lawrence who's energetic and funny as a guy in over his head. One of his more entertaining films, surrounded here by an excellent supporting cast. **½ Miles Logan is a jewel thief who just hit the big time by stealing a huge diamond. In an attempt to regain his diamond, he poses as an L.A.P.D. detective. Martin Lawrence and cops movies why the hell wouldn't it work right? And it does and although he is an actual criminal he did a much better job than the actual cops in this movie and the ending was really great. What also surprised me is that Lawrence's character is more dynamic in this film even more than his Bad Boys one and that says a lot. This is a very good enjoyable comedy and you won't be disappointed. The plot is formula all the way, but Lawrence has found a way to incorporate the physical techniques of the great silent stars with his standup comic's arsenal, and it's a pleasure to watch him at work.
